20 Years "Travma" (1997-2017)

It has already been 20 years since the release of one of Anna's most commercial albums! The album "Travma" is her 17th album and was released on the 17th April 1997 to a shocking response: the total success of all 15 songs and truly monopolising the radio airplays!!! Music and lyrics as always by Nikos Karvelas with lyrics of the songs "Siga", "Na sai kala" and "Apolito keno" by Natalia Germanou.

The album was released in Australia (06/1997) from the regional Sony “Limited Edition Tour Pack” which included cd singles of older hits. “Travma” was the last of her albums that was also released in vinyl! The album became triple platinum in Cyprus selling more than 18,000 copies and triple platinum in Greece selling over 180,000 copies!!

During the promo campaign for “Travma”, at the time, OTE released a collector’s edition telephone card which had the multiplatinum “Travma” on it. The song “Mavra giallia” is included along with “Eleni” and the single “Forgive me this” which was released in Australia. In September, “Travma” reached number 73 in the Australian album charts and the single “Forgive me” reached number 66 in the singles chart.

With this unique song and album, Anna and Nikos put their mark and stamp on the mainstream music scene of Greece, something that lasted for around a decade. The title track saw the return of a tsifteteli type sound which has now become one of Anna’s timeless classics. It has almost become an anthem for her fans!! At the same time, as Anna was at one of the pinnacles of her career, she recorded the songs “Mavra giallia” and “Thanatos einai i ayapi”. Finally the album also includes a duet with Sakis Rouvas which was written since the two where appearing together at the XAOS live music stage during that winter season.

The songs from the album were first heard during the winter season 1996-7 during Anna’s appearances at XAOS. However, we really got to know the songs during that very summer during her appearances at Ribas and during the following winter in her one woman show in Gkazi.

The song “Travma” has become one of Anna’s timeless classics and one of the songs that her fans wait to her even to this day at Hotel Ermou. The songs from the albums have at times been given a new feel with a rock style.
