Everything that happened yesterday at Anna Vissi's concert in Larnaca!

02 October 2011

In the city where she was born and grew up, Larnaca, Anna Vissi appeared yesterday as part of the Cypriot concerts named 'Etsi apla...' (So Simply).

So simply, Anna fascinated those gathered last night at Patticheo Ampitheatre in Larnaca.

'The best feeling is to return to your hometown and sing just like this...Larnaca...a nice word, a nice town...For me it is an emotional word, a word which means a lot...It means my family home, it means a garden full of jasmine, it means my school years, it means my childhood friends, who are still rooted inside me...All of this is rooted inside me and I carry it everyday inside me with pride, with love, with respect and when I return I feel that someone needs to appear comfortable singing in their town, I worry if I'm just as good as when I started. It's like passing exams. Perhaps because my old school (St. George's) is close by...where I had real exams...This love, which I receive, especially here in Cyprus, you can't beat it!'

This was Anna's first words after the end of the song 'Methismeni Politeia', with which she opened her show.

The evening continued with songs from Anna's 38 year career, and also with her favourite songs by other artists.

'A song which I love and which arouses emotions in me when I sing it is by a person who is dead, who luckily we got to love while he was alive...His name is Nikos Papazoglou, who wrote 'Avgoustous' (August), and maybe the song and him is gone, but he never left our hearts. Dedicated to Nikos!' Anna said before singing 'Avgousto' by Nikos Papazoglou.

A special moment of the evening was when Anna sang the traditional Cypriot song 'Tessera Tziai Tessera' saying that this song will always be dedicated to the 13 people who lost their lives at Mari.

'Ta Mathitika Chronia' (The School Years) with Andreas Georgiou and Vera Boufi, who attended the concert.

'Ola Ta Lefta' (All The Money)

'Paralio' (I'm paralyzed) with just 2 guitars!

When it came to the song 'Oso Echo Foni' (As long as I have a voice) she spoke about the rockumentary about her life called 'Anna Vissi: Oso Echo Foni' which premieres Wednesday 12th October on Alpha: I hope you all like it! I feel proud of what I've done, because it shows what I'm really like...from morning till night!'

Starting the 2nd part of the concert with the timeless 'Dodeka' (12)!

'Mi Milas Allo Gia Agapi' (Don't talk about love anymore) by Dionisis Savvopoulos

'Theos an einai' (If there is a God)

"I believe there are more songs written about break-ups than relationships, love is just happy and fine...because the pain, wrightly or wrongly, is the inspiration for the songs! This song is one of the best ever written about seperation and when I went through something like this myself -a big seperation which I've gone through so strongly- I remember singing it and I couldn't contain myself...I cried...because it's true what the chorus says, that it isn't easy to seperate 2 people in life who loved each other so much" said Anna about 'Trava Skandali' (Pull the trigger).

"Another song which when I wrote I was living exactly what I said. It's a nice job, however, to be a singer...your songs change over time with you" said Anna whilst the intro of  'De Thelo Na Ksereis' (I don't want you to know) could be heard!

'Gia ena oneiro zoume' (We live for a dream)

fANNAtic tips:

- Before she began to sing 'Oso Echo Foni', Anna revealed that she had rehearsed a song with her mother, Sofia, to sing together at the concert. When she refused to come up on to the stage, Anna said to her humorously; "You want us to sing in the second half so your voice can warm up; Smoke a cigarette and you'll be fine!" and she sang an old Nikos Karvelas hit 'H to tsigaro h ego', approached her and continuing to sing said "If you one day had to lose both things which would you miss more I'd like to see...The cigarette or me?" and the answer of Mrs Sofia was 'The cigarette!' and Anna and the audience broke into laughter!

- While Anna was singing 'Oso Echo Foni' a little girl climbed onto the stage and asked Anna to...clean the stage floor!

- While Anna sang 'Alitissa Psixi' she said: "This song is for my mum! An original rebellious soul!

- At the concert a booklet was distributed containing the lyrics of the song 'Imagine' by John Lennon.
